Electronic meters remain on trial in India

Guwahati, India — (METERING.COM) — November 15, 2007 – The State Government of Assam will produce a white paper covering the installation of electronic meters, which remain a contentious issue as consumers insist that the meters do not measure consumption accurately.

Several states in the country have embarked on power reform programs in a bid to curb revenue theft and improve distribution of energy. The introduction of electronic meters has formed part of these reform programs, but has met with fierce resistance on the part of consumers.

The Central Power Research Institute will conduct a random sample survey of the meters, in an effort to convince users that they are working correctly.
