Energy consumers in India ask for CBI probe

New Delhi, India — (METERING.COM) — September 9, 2006 – Electricity consumers and action groups in Delhi have got together to complain about the installation of “fast running” electronic meters and associated inflated energy charges, and have called for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The meeting, which was arranged by the People’s Action group and United Residents Joint Action, saw complaints filed against the Delhi government, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission and private distribution companies. These included over-billing, harassment, meter replacements, fast running meters, poor power supply and the behavior of service contractors.

The meeting decided to ask President Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to appoint an investigation by the CBI into the allegations.
