October 5, 2009 – The state electricity minister Arcot N Veerasamy announced the establishment of meter testing laboratories to limit the high revenue losses due to faulty meters.
Veerasamy was replying to a demand made by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Engineers Sangam at its 5th state conference held in the city.
The general secretary of the Sangam, V Ashok Kumar, said meter testing labs were earlier present in the state and then there were fewer meter-related complaints from consumers. "The high tension meters would be be tested once a year and low-tension meters once in two or three years. This way, the meters used to function properly. TNEB incurred no monetary loss due to faulty meter reading," said Ashok.
