Indian regulator focuses on metering

India Flag 2Faridabad, India — (METERING.COM) — January 17, 2007 – The Forum of Indian Regulators is expected to take steps to ensure that directives regarding energy supply are complied with – and one of these directives covers the deployment of meters to all consumers.

The Forum met earlier this month, and members agreed to put pressure on supply companies to implement decisions that had already been taken. For example, the chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) said that distribution companies should have completed the deployment of meters to all customers by June 2006, but noted that it had not even received metering plans by the date of the meeting.

Now the distribution companies have been asked to submit detailed plans by the end of this month which set out the steps that will have to be taken to install meters in all customers’ premises.
