Indian utility introduces total revenue management system

Mangalore, India — (METERING.COM) — February 4, 2008 – The Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM) plans to introduce a total revenue management (TRM) system after successful trials at several of its subdivisions.

The introduction of spot billing machines has been a key aspect of the system. These machines allow meter readers to download data from the computer system at the subdivision and upload data regarding bills issued during the day into the system, rather than entering meter data manually. This has led to a significant reduction in billing errors.

MESCOM will use the TRM system to automate all its subdivisional offices, including the billing and revenue collection system. Customers will be able to monitor their power consumption online, although there is as yet no provision for online payment of bills. MESCOM hopes to be able to offer this service once the TRM system is fully up and running.
