Itron wins bid to supply water meters for 250,000 households in Delhi

COO, Itron Water
August 3, 2011 – Itron received the order through a tendering process created by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), which oversees around 1.9 million connections in the city. At present consumers are charged for water on an estimated annual basis, rather than the cumulative consumption data. Over 60 per cent of DJB connections are either unmetered or have defective meters, resulting in huge wastage.

DJB launched the global tender to give customers a better monitoring system for water consumption and to help improve the efficiency of the water supply. Larsen & Toubro won the contract and will install the Itron meters.

Marcel Regnier, COO of Itron Water, said, ‘Itron is proud to extend our services and our technology to DJB and the residents of Delhi, and we’re honoured to be a part of the move towards water conservation in Delhi. These meters will be assembled at our newly inaugurated water meter factory in Dehradun and this significant project reinforces our position in the Indian market.’
