Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Malaysia’s largest electricity utility, has commissioned an enterprise energy management (EEM) system from Power Measurement of Canada to help optimise power quality and reliability across its national distribution network. Under the terms of the agreement, Power Measurement’s Malaysian agent, SFG Technology (M) Sdn Bhd, will supply, install, test and commission the EEM system, which consists of a network of ION® intelligent energy meters and web-enabled software.
The EEM system will automatically monitor and report on power quality conditions at each substation. As a detailed source of both real-time and historical information, it will help staff identify potentially disruptive conditions, investigate the source of faults, and restore power quickly after an outage. This technology will also provide operations and planning staff with the information to evaluate network performance through monthly and annual power quality reports. Additionally, the EEM system is expected to accommodate TNB’s benchmarking objectives by helping to analyse harmonics, and routinely monitoring compliance with international power quality standards such as EN50160, SEMI F47 and ITIC.
