New company to manufacture meters in Sri Lanka

Colombo, Sri Lanka — (METERING.COM) — October 3, 2008 – The first meter manufacturing company in Sri Lanka, Ante Leco Metering Company, is about to start manufacturing electricity meters in the country.

Ante Leco Metering, established earlier in the year as a 70:30 joint venture between the Lanka Electric Company (LECO) and the Ante Meter Company of China, is investing over Rs. 100 million (US$0.9 million) in the factory, which will be opened on Sunday.

V. Kandasamy, chief internal auditor of LECO, said the initial production will be around 600 units a month, and increasing by the end of the year.

The annual local demand is 100,000 meters. “We will be first meeting the local demand and will then soon export meters to other southern Asian countries,” said Kandasamy.

The high tech factory will also manufacture state-of-the-art meter testing and calibration equipment.
