On-Ramp Wireless AMI for Jeju Island smart grid

San Diego, CA, U.S.A. and Seongnam, South Korea — (METERING.COM) — November 16, 2011 – On-Ramp Wireless is to roll out its advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) to the South Korean Jeju Island smart grid project, in a partnership with the South Korean smart metering company Fountain Springs and Korea Telecom.

Based on the company’s Ultra-Link ProcessingTM (ULP) wireless networking platform for utility automation, On-Ramp and Fountain Springs will deliver the technology to enable the smart grid initiative, which will allow Korea Telecom to improve energy efficiency, lower costs and accelerate deployment of smart grid applications.

“On-Ramp’s ULP solution provides enhanced coverage and capacity compared with existing PLC and mesh AMI solutions,” said Dr. CS Hwang, CEO of Fountain Springs. “By deploying the ULP solution, we are able to provide a robust, high capacity integrated wireless communication system, truly changing the way electricity is managed and consumed in Korea.”

The Jeju Island project is being spearheaded by the South Korean government as part of a mission to transform the ways electricity is generated, distributed and consumed, and is aimed at continuing economic growth for the country and a foundation for Korean companies’ technological strength in the global smart grid market.
