Packages are environmentally friendly

Semiconductor company Chipcon AS has announced environmentally friendly packages for its whole product range, claiming that this will put the company, and potentially its customers, ahead of the European RoHS directive 2006 time limit. The European Parliament and the Administrative Council adopted Directive 2002/95/EG (RoHS) which concerns the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, early in 2003. This directive bans the use of substances such as lead, mercury and cadmium in electronic equipment put in circulation inside the European Union after 1 July 2006.

Chipcon believes the move to eliminate hazardous substances in electronics is not just a European matter but has global implications, and its international success makes it important to comply with standards such as these.
