Customers will have their meter deposits refunded

]Manila, The Philippines --- (METERING.COM) --- June 9, 2008 – Customers of the Manila Electric Company will have the deposits they have paid for their electric meters refunded, and no deposits will be levied in future, according to a statement made by Meralco Vice President for Corporate Communication Elpi Cuna, Jr. According to him, “Meralco has ceased charging the meter deposit since the Magna Carta for residential electricity consumers and the DSOAR (non-residential customers) were implemented.

Utilisation of AMR technologies in China

The rapid development of modern electronics and network technologies is contributing to the continuous improvement of various AMR solutions, among which power line communication (PLC), RS 485, and radio frequency (RF) are the most commonly used technologies.

To accomplish this task, many policy initiatives have been introduced by the government, particularly in the form of power reforms such as deregulation, The Electricity Act 2003, APDRP (Accelerated Power Development Reforms Programme), RGGY (Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification scheme). Energy metering project launched in India

]Pretoria, South Africa and New Delhi, India --- (METERING.COM) --- May 29, 2008 - Saab Grintek's integrated energy supply subsidiary, Grinpal Energy Management, has started with the installation of the first smart meters in New Delhi, India. The first project began in Tata, where the company is targeting 500 000 installations by 2010. The company said the reason it took almost two years to begin meter installations is that they had to familiarize the Indian distributors with the PLC AMR/prepaid system.

GSM/GPRS modems enable automated meter reading application in Thailand

The iTegno GSM/GPRS modem with EDMI Mk6N meter will be part of the solution for Samart to enable PEA to read their electric meters remotely.

Meralco doesn’t pay for the electricity it uses

[img:Meralco_0.jpg| ]Manila, Philippines --- (METERING.COM) --- May 19, 2008 – The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) does not pay for the electricity it uses in its head office, branch offices, call centers and computer rooms, and says that if it is forced to do so, the cost of electricity supply to its customers will have to be increased.

The provisions of the Philippine’s Anti-Pilferage Act of 1994 allow electric distribution companies to use one percent of the power they purchase from generation companies, and to pass on the cost to consumers. Meralco points out that every business includes its electricity consumption as part of its operating expenses, which are passed on to customers, and believes this should be applied to Meralco too, even if its business is the provision of electric power.

New products improve energy industry efficiency

The first is the DLMS OPC Server with DA 3.0 dupport with multi-channel and multi-device capabilities. The product is conformant to the latest version of OPC (V3.0).

Reducing transmission losses reduces power cuts

[img:MSEB_0.gif| ]Maharashtra, India --- (METERING.COM) --- May 14, 2008 – The Maharashtra State Electricity Board of India (MSEB) has announced that it has been able to reduce non-technical losses by as much as 8 percent, and says that as a result it will be able to reduce power cuts in the state.

Energy theft is a recurring problem – in 2007 the distribution company said it had identified 80,000 cases, which did not include meter readings that were falsified with the assistance of utility employees. It points out that when energy is not paid for the company is not recovering its costs, and thus is unable to invest in new infrastructure, with regular power cuts the result.
