Political probe into metering saga

Kerala IndiaKerala, India —(METERING.COM)— 10 July, 2006 – The Left Front (LDF) Government has ordered an investigation against Kadavoor Sivadasan, minister of electricity in the former Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), after it was alleged that he bought electronic power meters from a Delhi-based company, bypassing a local public sector company

The allegation was raised during an assembly in 2003, but the UDF denied any corruption. This is the first official vigilance probe ordered by the Achuthanandan government, which came to power in May.

However the move has been cricitised as aiming to silence the opposition, which has been crying foul against Achuthanandan, alleging he was protecting state public works minister P.J Joseph, who in turn is alleged to have been involved in a corrupt deal.
