Power outage in Indonesia affects millions

A power outage in Indonesia left close to 100 million people – almost half the country – without power for over five hours recently. The country’s state-owned utility said it did not know the cause of the outage, and the government has ordered an investigation into the matter.

Strong economic growth in Indonesia is causing record demand for electricity, and earlier this year the government instituted energy conservation measures in an effort to reduce pressure on the national electrical grid.
