Dhaka, Bangladesh — (METERING.COM) — July 12, 2006 – The parliamentary committee on public undertakings has today advised the Power Division to expand its prepaid metering system and other anti-theft initiatives in order to combat the proliferation of energy theft and cut revenue losses in Bangladesh.
The measures should cut the loss from more than 16 percent to below 10 percent.
The parliamentary committee has also blamed department officials and engineers for the losses, saying that they have been negligent in their duties. The committee also noted the large number of electricity ills that have remained unpaid and said that that crash systems should be implemented in order to trace these outstanding moneys.
Since prepayment was introduced by the Dhaka Electric Supply Authority losses have dropped from 35 percent to their current level.
