Smart grid project grant for India


Washington, DC, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — June 19, 2012 – Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has been awarded a grant of $450,000 by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) for a smart grid project to help control electric power on the grid in real time, reduce transmission losses and accommodate renewable energy generation.

The technical assistance will be carried out by utility infrastructure consultant Quanta Technology, LLC and situational intelligence solution provider Space-Time Insight.

The grant announcement formed part of the third U.S.-India Strategic Dialogue in Washington, D.C. last week.

At the same occasion a second grant of $585,375 was awarded to Power Grid to assist in assessing the implementation of high temperature superconductor cable systems within India’s power transmission grid. American Superconductor will serve as the contractor for this study.
