Mumbai, India — (METERING.COM) — July 27, 2010 – Embedded technology solutions and infrastructure deployment services provider ICSA (India) Ltd last week launched its smart energy meter manufacturing facility at Pashmailaram, Patancheru, Medak in Andhra Pradesh.
The plant was inaugurated by Kapil Mohan, director in India’s ministry of power.
The five acre plant, which is ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certified, is expected to produce 150,000 smart meters per month. The company has invested approximately Rs26 crores (US$5.5 million) in its set up.
ICSA is a new entrant into the smart metering market in India and the meters from the new facility will be for supply to the country’s distribution utilities.
“The total meter installation in India is 142 million while the replacement market potential is estimated to be 100 million meters,” commented G. Bala Reddy, managing director of ICSA (India) Ltd. “The smart meter market in India is still in its nascent stage and therefore, devoid of any tough competition. With the new manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh, we are definite to establish ourselves as a prominent player in this sector.”
