Lahore, Pakistan — (METERING.COM) — November 5, 2007 – The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) will install 20,000 single and three phase electronic meters, following successful trials over the last 18 months. The meters will be read remotely, and the utility hopes they will result in more accurate readings, as well as prevent incidences of energy theft.
The pilot project, known as the Remote Meter Reading System, has also made provision for improved customer service. Customers are now able to check on their power consumption by logging on to LESCO’s web site and entering their account number. In addition customers can now have full details of their electricity bills downloaded on to their mobile (cell) phones, by sending the reference number mentioned on the paper bills to the utility using text messaging (SMS).
LESCO has close to 3 million customers, and the plan is to roll out the Remote Meter Reading System by way of a phased program to include all its customers.
