TOU pricing scheme for the Philippines

The Philippine government recently introduced a four-day week for its employees, in an effort to cut energy consumption in the country which faces a power crisis before the end of the decade if efforts to curb energy use are not successful. Now the state has introduced time-of-use tariffs in an effort to encourage private companies to shift power use to off-peak periods.

The tariffs offer cheaper rates for electricity consumed at night and in the early mornings, although overall prices have just been increased for all power users. At the moment TOU is only being offered to business, but the government is considering extending the system to all power users, as part of its efforts to reduce electricity and fuel consumption by 10% in the coming months.
