Turkey undertakes privatization of electricity distribution companies


Turkish FlagIstanbul, Turkey — (METERING.COM) — December 6, 2006 – The Turkish government is taking steps to privatize electricity distribution companies in the country, aided by Italian energy utility Enel, reports research company Datamonitor.

Enel has formed a partnership with Enka, a Turkish energy firm, with a view to bidding for the tender of three distribution companies that will be the first in the country to be privatized. As a first step, Enel and Enka will jointly participate in the privatization process being undertaken by the Turkish government.

The joint venture company will submit an offer to acquire the full capital of Ayedas, Baskent and Sedas, which together provide electricity to 6 million customers.
