Beijing, China and San Ramon, CA, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — April 12, 2012 – The ZigBee Alliance has launched the Greater China Special Interest Group (SIG-GC) to better address the needs of its Greater China members and the Greater China market.

In addition to promoting ZigBee and expanding collaboration in the Greater China region, the group will focus on expanding membership, increasing participation in regional activities and conferences, identifying China-specific standard needs, and promoting the ZigBee certified program for interoperable products.

In June, 2011 the Alliance established offices in Beijing and Wuxi China to improve local access while addressing requirements for ZigBee standards to meet China’s specific needs for its rapidly expanding infrastructure and growing markets.

“China’s focus on the Internet of Things as one of its key strategic initiatives in the 12th five year plan is unique in the world,” said Bob Heile, chairman of the ZigBee Alliance. “The ZigBee SIG-GC will provide a China-centric platform to facilitate greater collaboration between our members and other organizations in China.”

The SIG-GC will hold its next meeting in Taipei, Taiwan in conjunction with the Computex Internet of Things Forum on June 5-9, 2012.
