Energy reform a key challenge for Australia

CanberraCanberra, Australia — (METERING.COM) — September 26, 2006 – The Energy Networks Association, the national body representing gas and electricity distribution businesses throughout Australia, has welcomed the approach being considered by the Prime Minister to create a separate energy ministry. It has also called on the Prime Minister to go one step further, and create a portfolio dedicated to energy and infrastructure.

“We are pleased the Prime Minister recognizes that energy reform is one of Australia’s key challenges,” said ENA CEO Andrew Blyth. “Much has been achieved since the initial round of national energy reforms. If a dedicated energy and infrastructure ministry is a way of ensuring more resources for the important energy reform program, then it is time to seriously consider this option.”

Energy network businesses deliver electricity and gas to over 13 million customer connections across Australia.
