(METERING.COM) — November 10, 2008 – This year the Utility Metering Association (UMA) is hosting a new and innovative event for the utility sector. The special event is an overview of the CitiSolar program, presented by guest speaker Greg Bruce, Executive Manager of Sustainability of theTownsville City Council.
CitiSolar is Townsville City Council’s program in support of the Townsville, Queensland Solar City project, led by Ergon Energy, which seeks to involve the wider community in an energy wise response to climate change. This program has the potential to build community capacity into the area of reducing peak load with innovative thinking for smart metering applications and consumer behaviour. This is an important way forward in curbing peak load as technological solutions alone, to date, have not addressed this issue adequately.
Other items on the agenda for the one-day seminar include AMI and revenue management as well as a demonstration of a smart meter trial installed at Latrobe University Research & Development Park.
The UMA Seminar, which is to take place on the 17 November 2008, is the pre-conference seminar to the Metering, Billing/CRM Australia & New Zealand 2008 Conference which will be held at the Hilton on the Park in East Melbourne, on 18-20 November.
