Powershop launched in New Zealand

Wellington, New Zealand — (METERING.COM) — February 18, 2009 – Powershop, the world’s first online energy store, has been launched in New Zealand with backing from Meridian Energy.

The brainchild of electricity industry veteran Ari Sargent, Powershop enables customers to pick and choose which electricity supplier they wish to be with, and to shop around for the best deal.

Powershop will also handle the switchover from one supplier to another.

A power organizer calendar shows the user how much electricity has been used and how much needs to be bought. Alerts enable the user to be kept up to date via email or text message. The user also may easily purchase electricity by clicking on the product and the number of units that are wanted to buy. On checkout payment is via credit card, internet payment, or direct debit.

Currently, only Meridian is represented on the site, and the FlowerPower and GreenPower providers that are its wholesale customers. However, other providers are expected to join Powershop soon.
