Valletta, Malta — (METERING.COM) — November 27, 2009 – Some 6,000 smart electricity and water meters have so far been installed in parts of Valletta and elsewhere in Malta, infrastructure minister Austin Gatt was quoted as telling parliament.
Enemalta started the installation of smart meters in May as part of a €70 million project aimed at improving operational efficiency and customer service.
In addition the project will contribute to eliminating unbilled consumption. Since the start of the installation of smart meters, 10 tampered meters have been discovered, bringing the total discovered since the beginning of the year to 126.
The installation of smart meters is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
