AMM project for German city

Stadtwerke Duesseldorf is the first utility in Germany to implement an AMM system with the Landis+Gyr in-home display, the ecoMeter, with the aim of testing the viability of enhanced smart metering systems among its customers. The contract, which is part of a pilot project lasting one year, comprises 10 PLC-PLAN concentrators, 1000 ZMF120 meters, 1000 PLC-PLAN modules and the ecoMeter. The first thousand ZMF120 meters are currently being installed at the homes of 1,000 utility customers within the city of Dusseldorf. From autumn 2008 Landis+Gyr will introduce the eco-Meter into customers’ homes.

This will enable customers to monitor their individual energy consumption in terms of cost, as well as the amount of greenhouse gas emissions their consumption produces, directly from the small display. Other developments include the connection of the ZMF120 meter to other multienergy media such as gas and water. The project is being carried out in conjunction with the ministry for the environment of the regional capital of Dusseldorf, the consumer centre NRW and the centre for innovative energy systems at Dusseldorf university.
