Belgium's independent meter reading company Indexis has gone live with a new PDA application for meter readers and planning for Meter Reading on Demand (MROD) in MECOMS, Ferranti Computer Systems' metering and contract management system. The PDA application generates circulations for both periodic and non-periodic readings. The latter are newly created each time, and consist of requests from suppliers and network users, or ensue from validation data.
From now on meter readers can find the circulation to be followed, and any agreements made for the MRODs in this PDA. On the basis of the readers' co-ordinates, the optimum circulations are plotted (GEO-optimisation). Meter readers can enter and validate new index values of consumers, as well as register new customers and devices. The synchronisation between the utility's central system and the PDA happens every two hours, and is done by means of GPRS communication. It can be initiated automatically or manually.
