Stockley Park, U.K. and Essen, Germany — (METERING.COM) — September 28, 2011 – British Gas has signed a letter of intent with Elster to provide its “dual protocol WAN” AS330 electricity meters and BK-G4E gas meters, to support the company’s initial smart metering rollouts in 2012 and 2013.
Elster joins Landis+Gyr as a qualified supplier for its smart metering deployment. Last year Landis+Gyr was awarded a contract to deploy up to one million “dual fuel” electricity and gas meters and touch screen in-home displays, with rollout set to start this month.
“We want our customers to understand the energy they use and make informed choices about when to use it and how to save it,” said Dean Keeling, managing director of British Gas smart homes. “This deal means we have another smart meter supplier helping us put our customers in control.”
Elster’s BK-G4E and AS330 meters have been developed specifically for utilities working to comply with the European directive for smart gas and electricity metering.
