In Europe, Cofely Services, a subsidiary of French electric utility company GDF Suez (now ENGIE) has formed a partnership with Sigfox, provider of global cellular connectivity for IoT, integrating its ultra-narrowband network to drive energy efficiency in buildings and smart metering.
The partnership between the two companies will re-enforce ENGIE’s services in data processing and analysis. Over the next three years, the French energy company, serving more than 400,000 customers plans to connect at least 100,000 objects.
Cofely Services designs and operates energy services to help businesses and local authorities to better use energy in an environmentally-friendly way.
It recently took the decision to integrate SIGFOX’s wireless, ultra-narrowband (UNB) network to offer all types of buildings follow-up services, management and smart metering to optimize their energy performance.
The UNB network has been designed for small messages that will meet the requirements of a large variety of objects connected to the Internet of Things (IoT).
A M2M WorldNews release adds that, the network lowers “barriers to wide implementation of IoT and M2M solutions, and greatly extends the battery and service life of connected devices” by providing an “economical, energy-efficient two-way transmission of data.”
Enhancing smart meter functionality
Sigfox’s offering compliments a host of Cofely’s existing services including data recording and maintenance of ambient temperatures and index of all meters (electricity, energy, water, gas etc), and detects the presence of water or predictive maintenance, notes M2M WorldNews.
The long-range wireless technology has been integrated with Cofely solutions and offers new “operating perspectives” and “democratizes energy-performance” strategies in buildings through its simple set-up, cost-effectiveness, interoperability and convenient easy-to-use features.
CEO of Cofely Services, Jean-Pierre Monéger said: “With SIGFOX, we open the field of possibilities. Gains in terms of installation and implementation are indeed significant, allowing us to offer our services to new buildings, such as multi-site, or buildings that are difficult to access.”
