EdF drops objection to liberalisation
Electricité de France, the state-owned French power group, has indicated that it is prepared to back down on its previous opposition to the European Commission’s drive for energy liberalisation.
EdF’s position will put pressure on the French government, which has resisted the Commission’s proposals to date. Until now, EdF has insisted that liberalisation should not proceed until the state of the market in Germany is addressed.
Liberalising supply to commercial users might open 60-70 per cent of the French market.
