London, U.K. — (METERING.COM) — March 22, 2012 – EDF Energy has awarded IT services company Atos a 10-year contract worth in excess of £100 million to provide data center services for its U.K. business.
The new solution should consolidate EDF Energy’s data center infrastructure to cut costs by 20 percent over the life of the contract.
“The new solution will enable us to run our business more cost effectively while improving the resilience and flexibility of our IT infrastructure,” commented Nigel Pettifer, EDF Energy’s head of Data Centers.
Under the contract, Atos will provide EDF Energy with significant additional data center capacity to meet increased demand, whilst also enabling its services to be flexed up or down according to requirements. The existing data center facilities will be rationalized and Atos will introduce services from its own global network of data centers, as well as implementing new technology solutions to further improve service resilience.
Over 100 employees from EDF Energy are transferring to Atos and will continue to be based at EDF Energy locations.
