London—(METERING.COM)— June 16, 2006 – Meter readers and meter operatives of UK utility EDF Energy are using rugged handheld computers as part of their daily routine. The Psion Teklogix WORKABOUT PRO is supported by Telepartner’s ServiceNet platform.
Telepartner is a supplier of mobile data solutions to improve field worker productivity. The company carried out an evaluation of a number of handheld devices for the EDF Energy project, and the WORKABOUT PRO was chosen for its lightweight, rugged construction and ergonomics, as well as its bright touch-sensitive screen. It is the first device in the rugged category to be certified for use with ServiceNet.
ServiceNet is Telepartner’s functional environment for implementing mobile working applications, and the underlying platform for Telepartner’s customers, all of whom carry out a mix of planned or reactive work or meter reading.
“When we evaluate devices for our customers, longevity, reliability and ease of use come high on our list of priorities,” says Lindsay Kennedy, Telepartner’s Managing Director. “Any device we use has to have reliable mobile comms and be able to run the Telepartner client software out of the box. In both instances the WORKABOUT PRO scored well.”
