Embedded Java for RX microcontrollers from Renesas collaboration


A collaboration between Renesas Electronics Europe with embedded software component supplier Micrium and embedded Java solution supplier IS2T is to offer the MicroEJ® Java platforms for Renesas RX microcontrollers (MCUs).

The aim is to offer developers a software strategy based on the “application platform” approach. That approach contributes to expand product ranges, to accelerate specification process, and to improve user experience for markets specifically targeted by the RX product family, such as smart grid, smart metering, smart appliances, building and home automation, and other Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

“Embedded design is becoming more complex as design parameters evolve and demands for quicker time-to-market increase, especially for emerging IoT applications,” said Bernd Westhoff, RX product manager at Renesas Electronics Europe. “Working closely with embedded software platform providers like Micrium and IS2T enhances our ability to provide the flexibility, reliability, scalability and ease of use desired by customers developing the next generation of the IoT and graphical user interfaces with our RX MCU.”

The IS2T MicroEJ encompasses the entire embedded software lifecycle management – prototyping, development and testing – powered by simulated development environment representative of the ‘target hardware’. The MicroEJ platform works on Micrium RTOS µC/OS-III running on Renesas RX MCU family. The scalability of MicroEJ allows the same application to be developed on a wide range of Renesas MCU/MPU devices, starting with the RX, based on customers’ target cost/performance constraints.
