This week, global demand response aggregator Open Energi entered into an energy management partnership with heavy construction materials provider Hanson UK.Partnership of the two companies is expected will help power utility National Grid, to better manage and increase integration of distributed energy resources including solar and wind, into to the grid.
Under the collaboration, the UK headquartered demand response aggregator is installing its energy management technology ‘Dynamic Demand tech’ at Hanson’s 29 sites in the UK.
In a press statement, Open Energi claims the integration of its technology at Hanson’s sites will provide National Grid with 2MW of flexible capacity.
Chris Kimmett, Commercial Manager at Open Energi said: “Demand Response is a game changing evolution in the way we manage energy which gives businesses the insight and control they need to decide how, when and from where they consume their energy.”
To date, 14 Hanson UK sites have been installed with Open Energi's technology to allow these sites’ Bitumen tanks and pumps to shift their demand for energy in real-time.
[quote] The technology enables the equipment to reduce their consumption during on-peak periods and to increase consumption during off-peak times.
In addition, the energy management solution provides sub-second metering data on equipment performance via an online portal, allowing Hanson UK to monitor, manage and compare the performance of sites and assets, identify energy cost reductions and optimise site resources.

Energy management in the UK
In other energy management news, UK telecoms company O2 in mid-January, partnered with US firm AT&T to launch a service that will assist customers to manage their home’s energy system using a mobile application.
The partnership was one of many announced at this year’s global consumer electronics and consumer technology tradeshow CES 2016 in Las Vegas.
AT&T’s Digital Life platform will be made available to O2’s 25 million customers, which will allow homeowners to monitor and adjust heating temperatures, electricity consumption and water use when they are away.
O2 will be the first commercial provider of the Digital Life home management and automation platform in Europe, and marked its entry into the domestic energy management market, according to Edie.net.
David Plumb, digital director at O2, commented: “Across a range of sectors, we’ve already seen technology evolve from analogue to digital to smart. But when it comes to our homes, the experience is mostly stuck in analogue.”
