Brussels, Belgium — (METERING.COM) — June 4, 2012 – A European Smart Grids forum has been established by the European electricity and gas distributors’ association GEODE to aid the region’s development in smart grid thinking by sharing expertise and feeding this back into the European Commission.
David Smith, chief executive of Britain’s Energy Networks Association (ENA) and vice president of GEODE, has been appointed to chair the forum.
“I’m delighted to have been asked to chair this group,” said Smith. “A smart grid is a vital part of our energy future in the UK, and as an interconnected Europe.”
At the forum’s first meeting in London on May 25, a wide range of smart grid issues were discussed, including the network benefits of smart meters, the potential for demand side response, data privacy and electric vehicles.
