Finnish utility expands smart metering system with turnkey implementation

Jyskä, Finland — (METERING.COM) — January 12, 2009 – Finnish utility Järvi-Suomen Energia Oy is expanding its current smart metering system by 7,000 metering points and expanding its Landis+Gyr Advanced Metering Management (AMM) solution.

Järvi-Suomen Energia Oy started the AMM cooperation with Landis+Gyr in 2005 and is now extending its current AMM solution to cover the whole Savonlinna city area. This enables the remote reading of electricity consumption data.

Järvi-Suomen Energia decided on turnkey implementation leaving hardware installation, AMM system implementation, training, and the integration of customer data and energy data management control systems to Landis+Gyr.

The objective is to achieve reliable and quick deployment with low cost and minimum investment from the utility. “Turnkey delivery is ideal for us as we don’t have sufficient resources to implement the project,” says Ari Kuosmanen, network manager at Järvi-Suomen Energia.

The integration to the utility’s Customer Management System is facilitated by the use of the AIMIA integration tool. AIMIA enables seamless data flow to the utility’s data management systems, resulting in accurate, consumption-based billing and efficient reporting.

Järvi-Suomen Energia has also invested in a new energy data management system that offers consumers an internet-based application for monitoring personal energy consumption.

The solution consists of Landis+Gyr AIM system updates and multi-energy meters. Communication to the system is carried out using GPRS and PLC connection.

Deployment will be finalized during 2009.
