Gazprom extends its reach into the U.K.

Moscow, Russia and Wilmslow, U.K. — (METERING.COM) — March 14, 2008 – Russian-owned Gazprom, the largest gas producer in the world, has extended its reach into the U.K. by investing in TruRead, a company that offers services for end-to-end collection and delivery of electricity, gas and water meter readings.

Two years ago the gas giant bought Pennine Natural Gas, a supply company. With the U.K. government’s increasing interest in smart meters as a way of providing customers with information that enables them to use energy more efficiently, however, it appears that Gazprom plans to broaden its service offering with the investment in TruRead.

For TruRead the investment means that the company will be able further to develop its product and service offerings in a market that is likely to see considerable growth in the next few years.
