German smart metering provider Diehl Metering is the seventh company selected by French gas utility Gaz réseau Distribution France (GrDF) to develop and produce its large-scale meter project known as Gazpar.
Sappel, a French subsidiary of Diehl, will supply 2.5 million radio modules for the smart meter Gazpar roll out, launched by the French government in 2009.
Diehl is one of seven partners selected to assist with the roll out of the meters to around 11 million French households and businesses by 2022.
Other partners in the €1 billion project include Itron, Sagemcom and Atos Worldgrid.
