Zug, Switzerland — (METERING.COM) — July 7, 2011 – The Interoperable Device Interface Specifications (IDIS) association, which supports interoperability specifications based on open standards, and Kema have signed a cooperation agreement for the conformance testing of IDIS meters.
The IDIS association has developed a comprehensive IDIS conformance testing tool for smart meters, providing an essential foundation for the development of interoperable products. Under the agreement with Kema, IDIS can now offer the required tools as well as the necessary testing environment to help utilities and manufacturers develop conformant metering equipment.
The testing tool developed by IDIS performs more than 1,200 interoperability test cases per meter.
“This is a further significant step forward towards the availability of manufacturer independent, interoperable smart meters,” said Dieter Brunner, president of the IDIS association. “We are convinced that with this step, all utilities including in particular small and medium sized ones will be able to profit from manufacturer independent, interoperable smart meters without needing to write their own specifications and develop their own testing facilities.”
The availability of thoroughly tested interoperable products based on open standards is central to building a truly interoperable environment in the smart metering industry. The IDIS association develops, maintains and promotes publicly available interoperability specifications (IDIS specifications) based on IEC standards.
