Zug, Switzerland — (METERING.COM) — May 21, 2010 – The IDIS (Interoperable Device Interface Specifications) Association has been established as an industry association to maintain and promote publicly available technical interoperability specifications with a view to making interoperability a reality in the smart metering industry.
The founding members are Iskraemeco, Itron and Landis+Gyr, which last year started working towards an interoperability specifications based on the DLMS standard.
This IDIS specification is due to be released in the second half of 2010, as are interoperability testing facilities
“With the founding of the IDIS association we step on virgin soil in the smart metering industry,” commented Oliver Iltisberger, president of the IDIS Association. “We are aware that the goals we have set are challenging but the telecom industry has demonstrated that it is possible to achieve them.”
Membership of IDIS is open to smart metering companies that are committed to providing interoperable products based on open standards and that provide conformance tested IDIS equipment.
