E.ON lifts IoT offerings through partnership with local firm


According to a statement, the Germany headquartered utility and energy services company will employ IoT offerings integrated in Cuculus’ ZONOS IoT platform.

The IoT platform is expected to help E.ON to improve services in the electric vehicle sector and for consumers with smart meters. The provider claims its technology enable users to use a single platform in a wide range of sectors including meter data management, advanced meter management and the smart home management.

E.ON says it will use the solution to integrate its electric vehicle charging infrastructure business with the company’s efforts in the renewable energy and smart home environments.

In addition to the partnership, E.ON has acquired a share within Cuculus.

Commenting on the development, Philipp Ulbrich, Head of Innovation Scouting and Strategic Co-Investment at E.ON, said: “We are looking forward to our cooperation with Cuculus and to jointly build the products that will be at the heart of the distributed energy system of the future..”

The energy industry is going through fundamental transitions along the value chain with radical changes to business models. The shift from a steady going large scale centralised operations to fast moving de-centralised solutions servicing individual customer needs puts high demand on the industry.

Rollout of IoT platform

Meanwhile, in Italy, Telecom Italia Mobile has announced the operation of its narrow-band Internet of Things (IoT) communications network. In a statement, the telecommunications company said it deployed 75% of its 4G network.
