Irish energy supplier ESB plans for single electricity market

ESB LogoDublin, Ireland — (METERING.COM) — March 5, 2007 – Irish energy supplier Electricity Supply Board (ESB) has selected the LODESTAR® Customer Choice Suite™ (CCS™) software to support its trading operations as part of Ireland’s single electricity market initiative.

This year, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are moving to a new wholesale electricity pool market, the single electricity market (SEM). Beginning in November, all market participants – generators and suppliers – will be required to operate within the mandatory pool market. ESB therefore identified the need for new IT systems to support its operations in the pool.

"The SEM presents an entirely new trading environment that will place new demands on ESB’s businesses. ESB needs a system with a proven track record of meeting these key requirements," said Brian Dowd, implementation programme manager with ESB. "Following a comprehensive tendering process, the LODESTAR product was selected because of its capabilities and because of LODESTAR’s implementation experience."

The LODESTAR solution will be deployed to support the pool-related processes including bid management, market messaging, market data capture, shadow settlement and credit management. The award builds on an existing relationship between the two organizations – ESB Customer Supply deployed LODESTAR’s demand forecasting system in 2005.

"We are delighted to continue to develop the strategic partnership between ESB and LODESTAR, becoming an enterprise software vendor for the leading utility in the Republic of Ireland," says Julien Grouès, vice president and managing director of LODESTAR Europe.
