In a press statement, the Swiss smart grid and smart metering technologies provider said its new module M250 records and transmits pressure and temperature reading data from industrial line monitors to the utility.
In so doing, the module helps utility companies to monitor gas pressure to ensure accurate billing and pressure integrity for industrial applications.

Steven Schamber, vice president of AMI solutions at Landis+Gyr, commented: “Utilities will be able to replace cellular or land line modems in tracking devices with a future-proof module that works on their existing network and offers more flexibility for collecting critical data.”
The M250 is part of Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream AMI solution, and also provides four separate channels of register data at the same time and multiple event settings to report tampering or low battery status. [Landis+Gyr upgrades GridStream AMI solution].
The module automatically performs firmware upgrades and consists of user-selectable time increments for data retrieval.
Landis+Gyr in smart grid tech deployments
The launch of the module follows Landis+Gyr’s selection by the US utility Burbank Water and Power (BWP) to enhance the utility’s grid management.
The California utility deployed the firm’s advanced grid analytics technology, Asset Loading Solution, to monitor and manage its grid assets in real time.
Calvin Clark, Electrical Engineering Associate at BWP, said: “By using the technology, we can now run detailed analysis on transformers, and balance the load when needed to extend the life span of our transformers.
“Predictive analytics enables us to deliver services reliably and provides us the opportunity to avoid unnecessary overtime spent on responding to transformer outages,” added Clerk.
The solution is said to have allowed the utility to experience zero unplanned outages this summer.
Landis+Gyr claims that the technology helps utilities to ensure grid reliability and improve customer services through monitoring the performance of grid assets in a cost effective manner.
