Energy management solutions company Landis+Gyr has launched the latest version of its meter data management system Gridstream.
The Switzerland-headquartered company said the 3.5 version of its MDMS, which automates the flow of data between advanced metering head-end systems and utility systems, includes new data storage architecture to allow easier integration of master data.
Other new features include improved handling of on-demand commands to the advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) network, updates to the SmartData for Outage Management extension to boost scalability of the application, and multi-language support to enhance global usability of the product.
Commenting on the new software release, Dave Connaker, president of Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream MDMS Solutions, said: “Continued improvements to how Gridstream MDMS processes meter data and commands are complemented in this version by user interface enhancements that make the product easier to use and more valuable to our customers.”
MDMS deployed in the field
Landis+Gyr estimates that Gridstream MDMS globally is processing data for more than 57 million metering endpoints at utilities, including DONG Energy, one of the largest energy suppliers in Northern Europe.
In a deal sealed in January 2015, DONG Energy bought Gridstream MDMS in a bid to support smart metering at all residential metering end-points.
DONG Energy will integrate the MDMS into its IT architecture over the next four years.
The deal comes as the energy supplier prepares to replace its entire residential metering stock.
Between 2017 and 2030, the energy company will deploy one million smart meters in customers’ homes within its service territory.
The Landis+Gyr solution will allow the utility to process and validate hourly energy data collected from the smart meters.

“We have now taken the first important step to ensure that, by the end of 2020, all of DONG Energy’s one million customers have remotely read electricity meters.”
