Landis+Gyr's launches updates to Gridstream MDMS

Landis+Gyr's new grid sensor and Ericsson Middle East partnertshipEnergy management giant Landis+Gyr is back in the news this week with the launch of a sensor for its smart grid platform for advanced metering and grid management applications with the aim of improving network visibility.

The S610 Line Sensor for the Gridstream RF network is a fault circuit indicator that extends the distribution monitoring capabilities of the network.

The sensor works by recording fault location and accurate load logging from any point on the distribution network, with the aim of improving grid visibility.

The S610 Line Sensor is a power harvesting device that draws power from the current flowing in the distribution line to make it “easy to deploy and maintain”, said Kent Hedrick, director of Grid Management Solutions at Landis+Gyr.

Mr Hendrick said: “The intelligent radio in the device reports fault-specific alerts that enable a utility to pinpoint location and analyze cause resulting in faster outage restoration.

“This makes the sensor a useful addition to the other grid management tools supported by Gridstream.”

Landis+Gyr partnered with Sentient Energy to develop the product for the Gridstream network.

Telcom partner for Middle East growth

Meanwhile, Landis+Gyr has teamed with Swedish telecommunications giant Ericsson to target smart metering and smart grid projects in the Middle East.

Under the terms of the partnership, Ericsson and Landis+Gyr will join competencies to create smart energy networks that can process large volumes of data with a view to integration of micro-generated, renewable energy sources.
