Lottery may encourage customers to pay power bills

Kosovo Energy Company in Serbia has introduced a lottery in a bid to encourage customers to pay their outstanding electricity bills. At present only some 30% of the utility’s bills are actually collected.

The lottery offers prizes worth €30,000 ($37,800) that include a summer holiday and a laptop. Customers are entered into the draw if they pay at least €20 ($25) towards their electricity bills.

Kosovo’s power plants are old and dilapidated, and the frequent breakdowns result in regular power cuts in the province.
