The Smart Electric Power Alliance finalised its merger with the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel providing a single source for utility information on collaboration.According to a SEPA release, "the merger provides a single source for information and collaboration for utilities and DER providers on the smart transition to clean energy."

The Alliance adds, "[Our] focus on market research, conferences and events, and advisory services — combined with SGIP’s technical depth — will enable greater cross-fertilization of ideas and initiatives in the industry dealing with business and technical issues, and market and regulatory concerns."

In a earlier release, SEPA states that the two organisations share the same vision about the future of the energy sector. [SGIP paper examines security concerns of smart grid broadcast comms]

SEPA President and CEO Julia Hamm, commented: “With the completion of this merger, we are adding nearly 80 new member organizations to our existing base of over 1,000 members of utilities, private sector corporations and government agencies.

She adds: “Within SEPA’s mission of facilitating the electric power sector’s smart transition to clean energy future, integrating SGIP’s technical knowledge is another way to serve all of our members.”

“I’m excited to join SEPA as the new Chief Innovation Officer and expect the combined organization will be able to deliver even greater value to our members and the entire electric power industry,” said Sharon Allan, former CEO and President of SGIP. SGIP analyses transactive energy landscape

Just recently, the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) issued a whitepaper highlighting the development, characteristics and benefits of transactive energy systems.

The Pacific North-West National Laboratory defines a TE system as a method for monetising values and incentivizing grid assets to respond.

According to the SGIP, the objectives of a TE system is to integrate DERs on grid networks to meet grid/customer demands and at the same time, ensure the coordination of integrated resources to improve system efficiency. Read more...
