Chipcon AS, provider of high performance low power RF-ICs, has announced the availability of IEEE 802.15.4-compliant MAC software for its products. The software is available free of charge under a licence agreement, giving customers a head start in their ZigBee and IEEE 802.15.4 product developments.
The IEEE 802.15.4 MAC sub-layer implementation runs on the newly-released CC2420DBK hardware platform, which includes an Atmel AVRmega microcontroller. The software is written in C, allowing it to be ported to other platforms easily. The MAC sub-layer software can be configured for different user needs, and includes functions such as collision avoidance (CSMA-CA), beaconing, association, scanning, access control, AES encryption and authentication. Together these functions provide users with a reliable link between two or more MAC entities.
