Spanish utility Endesa develops innovative AMM system

Endesa 2Madrid, Spain — (METERING.COM) — October 6, 2006 – Endesa, Spain’s largest utility, has signed an agreement with Renesas Technology and Yitran to develop and implement an open PLC specification for automatic meter management (AMM). Renesas Technology is a supplier of semiconductor solutions to the metering industry, and Yitran is a PLC fabless semiconductor company.

With input from both internal and external sources, including local and international meter manufacturers, Endesa has defined an innovative AMM system which will allow remote reading and operation of its domestic meters. After analysing existing PLC technologies and undertaking an intensive evaluation process Endesa selected an optimum solution, which led to the signing of the agreement.

The solution is based on a jointly-developed networking layer based on a combination of Endesa’s meter management expertise and Renesas’ experience in the implementation of its RUN-MTM meter networking software. The physical layer is based on Yitran’s IT800 DCSK-based powerline modulation technique, specially designed to cope with distortion over distribution powerlines.
