U.K. electricity consumers to get monitoring devices

David Miliband,
Environment Secretary,

London, U.K. — (METERING.COM) — April 12, 2007 – Government ministers in the U.K. have announced that all consumers of electricity must be given monitoring devices that display the real-time cost of the power they are using when the request for such a device is made, and that utilities will have to bear the cost of the devices. Additionally, all new meters will have to be supplied with the monitoring device from 2008.

The initiative is part of the government’s drive to reduce carbon emissions. Environment Secretary David Miliband said: "People want to do their bit to help protect the environment. If they can save money at the same time, all the better. Visual display units provided free of charge will help people do both."
