Stockholm, Sweden — (METERING.COM) — July 5, 2010 – Swedish utility Vattenfall Eldistribution has concluded an agreement with IT solutions and business information services provider Telvent to extend the operation of its smart metering system, Amrelva 3, until the year 2014.

Telvent has partnered with Vattenfall since 2006, implementing and operating a metering network of more than 600,000 smart meters.

Vattenfall Eldistribution, Vattenfall Services and Telvent have also signed a letter of intent to work together in the operation and enhancement of the entire metering network for the next six years. The intention is to operate more than 850,000 meters in Sweden, including both industrial and residential customers through 2017.

With the Telvent solutions, Vattenfall will have the capability to compile, analyze and process, in real time, an entire new set of data retrieved from the smart meter network. Vattenfall will be able to make decisions within an enhanced security environment that will improve efficiencies in grid operations and allow the integration of power supply from new renewable energy sources, without compromising grid stability.

“We are pleased to continue our successful partnership with Vattenfall and honored that the utility continues to entrust us with the management of its metering system,” said Telvent CEO Ignacio González. “Vattenfall is helping to lead the way to a truly smarter and more efficient grid in Sweden and we are proud to be a part of that.”
